Open Kitchen & Interesting Lights

There are a few thing I have come to appreciate. First? Kitchens large & open enough to have a nice eating area -- dining table -- in the kitchen.  I love how the flow of this kitchen is open to the table & not stashed over in the corner in this home.

Second? Interesting lighting. Nordic homes in particular always have the most daring (creative) lighting choices.  I love this homes natural charisma & laid back style. The kitchen in particular is fantastic!

Dreamy Swedish Home, Part Two

Earlier this week I shared with you the first part of this amazing Swedish home tour (here) - how dreamy bright it is! The upstairs is equally charming, in particular the bathroom.

This home is one of those effortless homes ... cozy & comfortable and easily maintains it's style. It's not overly stylized (ahem, black & white mania!) but has a clear perspective. And? I love the abundance of lighting & lamps throughout the space.

Dreamy Swedish Home, Part One

This home is dreamy. A real show stopper. Cozy, comfortable. I'm sold!

Which is great, because this home is actually for sale.  The general layout of the living space on the first floor has an amazing open flow and enough white to brighten up any grey winter day. The eat in kitchen is my favorite aspect of the house .. that marble countertop is so stunning!

And? I'm loving all the windows - so much character. So farmhouse-ish.

White with Subtle Layers of Color

I am inspired by the visual contrast in these spaces. Bright and such fantastic, yet sublte layers of color ... such as the red wheels & green/yellow paintings in the living room.  And always the layers of black.

Another love? The wood floors in the bedroom & kitchen. So raw & unfussy.

The weekend list?  Watch tv .. a luxury of mine, really! Finish reading (and re-reading!) this amazing book on education. Bake, bake, bake... it's that season, thankfully. Finish getting ready for my oldest son's birthday next weekend - he's going to be 7 and a Star Wars party is in order...  

The very best weekend to all of you and my thoughts of prayers of love for all our friends on the East Coast recovering from Hurricane Sandy.

The Warburg House by Bioi

This house caught me as a housey-house with it's familiar house shape. Super simple but has this intriguing character to it, I just want to know more! And you know it's more than meets the eye and certainly has a cool story to it.

Designed by the Candadian firm Bioi, the Warburg House, located on a farm space in Canada, had a goal to create a contemporary yet simple and energy efficient design for less than $100,000. While the home is not huge, that is a mighty goal!

I love the juxtaposition of the new home and the old shed, connected by the deck. It's a genuine addition to a new space, so lovely. And the dark exterior with the vertical exterior wood is amazing.

Cozy Swedish Kitchen

Can't you imagine yourself in this cozy kitchen baking pie and chatting with your Mom? It's so inviting and warm. Perfect for this time of year as winter awaits us.  

And a bit farm-ish? I like that, though. The whiteness and open shelves. The warm wide-planked wood floors.  And I love how Miriam changes the rug in her kitchen often (more on that, here!). Motherly, in a good way.

DIY Tube Lamp

So clever! Annaleenas hem has come up with an amazing Tube Lamp DIY. Did you ever consider making a lamp out of a poster tube?

I had not, but now i'm eager to make one, you?! Plus the black of the tube and cord is perfectly graphic and fresh.

Hanna's Room

This is what your space would look like if you sold everything and got rid of all the junk. And if you had excellent light and great sensibility. Plus, that marble table top is just fantastic.

Perfect combination. So lovely. And of course, such great light!

Autumn-ness

Serious Autumn-ness going on, friends! The giant maple trees outside of my house are turning bright yellow and look like enormous pom-poms! I love it and a sure sign of Autumn. Last week we visited the pumpkin patch with the kids and seasonal squash, local apples and even a few persimmons are finding there way in our weekly CSA box.

Today I am inspired by... Autum-ness. So cozy. This is what I am thinking:
candles | autumn apple cider champagne sangria | pears | boozy pie bites
