  • Wintery Cozy Bedrooms

I'm officially in hibernation mode! The holidays are here which for me is a time to slow down and relax.

I recently repainted our bedroom grey, adding a few updates here & there. It's mass cozy and has become the perfect spot to watch a movie late into the evenings.

I've gathered a few bedrooms which have inspired me recently....

  • White with Subtle Layers of Color

I am inspired by the visual contrast in these spaces. Bright and such fantastic, yet sublte layers of color ... such as the red wheels & green/yellow paintings in the living room.  And always the layers of black.

Another love? The wood floors in the bedroom & kitchen. So raw & unfussy.

  • New! Fall 2012 Dwellstudio

I'm always interested to see what Dwellstudio's new patterns will be and am excited to see more youthful, vibrant designs in their Fall 2012 collection!

Two standouts are Painted Chevron Ink and Barrow French Gray (both pictured above) which are graphic and fresh. For something even more simple, the new Modern Border collection is lovely, available in ink, citrine and tangerine. Which one is your favorite?

  • Inspiration: Bedside Design

My master bedroom makeover project is still underway! And though I lack the time to get a few major projects (wallpapering!) checked off my list, my mental engine is roaring & ready to decorate!

What I don't currently have is a bedside table or nightstand. I'm using my Great-Grandmother's child size wood rocking chair (over 100 years old?!) as a  makeshift bedside table. It's much too low and slopey to be proper and  I'm sure both my Great-G and Grandma would be cringing at the sight of it. So inappropriate!  The other side of our bed is empty. Fail!

Taking inspiration from the bedside tables above, I love how nightstands don't have to be overdone. A simple vignette of a lamp, a plant and some books and you're set. I don't need any bedside storage, so a simple stool or small table on either side of the bed is on my list.

I have my eye on the O&G Studio Atlantic Table Height Stool & the Eastvold Classic Side Table.

  • make/do: the "before" bedroom pictures

The infamous "before" pictures. You must have a good set of "before" pictures in order to properly boast in your glorious room makeover, right?

My master bedroom is boring, mismatched & unthoughtful. I have not even tried to do anything fantastic in this room.

    What I like:
    1. Years ago I painted the inside of the closet a bright coral color. So happy.
    2. The art in the images above I actually do like & will keep.
    3. The little wood rocking chair. Child size. It was my Grandma's as a small girl. It's a keeper, but won't use it as a nightstand.

    What I dislike:
    1. The carpet is unsightly. While new when we bought our home, I've always disliked it.
    3. The actual room size is tiny so we only have a bed & dresser in the room as well as the little rocking chair.
    4. Wall color. I picked it. It's okay -- a grey color. But I am so over it. New wallpaper?!
    5. The Curtains. I apparently do not know how to pick out & hang curtains. Currently, crooked & saggy.
    6. Bedding. Time to update!
    7. Lighting. Must change this!
    8. Un-closet doors. Our home is a late 70's ranch, updated. It came with those wild-ly sliding closet doors. Horrible & ugly.  New closet doors have been added to the list...

Next, I will post a list of  all the projects I have planned for this room as well as all the product I will be purchasing. Fun!

  • make/do: my bedroom pinterest inspiration

I've updated the living room & have re/decorated the kids' room several times. But the Master Bedroom? I've never purposely put together an inspiration & design for our bedroom. Have you?

However, one of my home goals for 2012 was to do exactly this: clear out all the clutter & random pieces from our master bedroom and transform it into a room that is cozy, minimal... yet fun & interesting.

To get started? Everyone's favorite: Pinterest. I gathered ideas from blogs, House&Hold as well as other 'pinners. View my entire Master Bedroom Pinboard, here.
