I love old/new. It creates such a fantastic contrast that is so intriguing  This home, named Porch House is amazing, I just want to see more of the inside.

I love the whites, I love the mix of old and new. I love the conceptualizing of each image... non-livable but totally inspiring. For me at least, I like when things are mixed up and not so trendy.

And the floors? Yes, totally love.

  • The Warburg House by Bioi

This house caught me as a housey-house with it's familiar house shape. Super simple but has this intriguing character to it, I just want to know more! And you know it's more than meets the eye and certainly has a cool story to it.

Designed by the Candadian firm Bioi, the Warburg House, located on a farm space in Canada, had a goal to create a contemporary yet simple and energy efficient design for less than $100,000. While the home is not huge, that is a mighty goal!

I love the juxtaposition of the new home and the old shed, connected by the deck. It's a genuine addition to a new space, so lovely. And the dark exterior with the vertical exterior wood is amazing.

  • A Summerhouse... in the winter?

This is a Summerhouse? I just don't think I'd be able to stay away from this amazing little spot! I of course love the openness & light... but  the open kitchen and the woodstove out in the open is fantastic.

The floor is also intriguing. It looks like concrete, but is actually tiles. Tiles of what, I am not sure.  And the open doors & window spaces? We don't even have to talk about that! So great.

  • Dusk

I think houses photographed at dusk are far more interesting. I love the interior glowing lights - it makes you wonder what's in there! Sort of like taking an evening walk and peeking in your neighbors windows as you walk by.

The home i'd most want to peek inside? The house built in the rocks. So interesting!

  • Home of Fashion Blogger Stephanie Gundelach

I think I might have found my favorite new space! The home of Copenhagen fashion blogger Stephanie Gundelach is .. painterly. Artistic. Unexpected. But? Still has an edited frame of reference, not cluttered and doesn't look like it dropped out of a store catalog. A winner.

And some elements I would really not have expected to work, or that I would even like. Such as the coffee table or the occasional color on the wall. But dang, it's just all so perfect. And the color palette is impeccable. I especially love how that blush-ish, copper-y pink color that is woven throughout the space.

Really, really lovely. What's your favorite element?

  • Beautiful Restoration of Sant Francesc Church

This just blew me away. An old (built in the early 1700's!) church in Spain beautifully restored. Originally intended for demolition, the Sant Francesc Church was saved by the residents of Santpedor, transforming the decrepit space into a thoughtful cultural space and auditorium.

Taking seven years to restore, architect David Closes added modern elements to the naturally historic building.

It's absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful renovations I have ever seen.

  • Swedish Summerhouse

The Swedes are amazing. They have actual summer houses. I have a Swedish friend who lovingly talks about the family's summer house. So I am always intrigued to see what these summer homes actually look like.

I found a gem! Once an abandon farmhouse Swedish Architects LASC Studio turned it into a spectacular home that meshes traditional elements with modern design.  I'd want to live there year round, right?

What I don't show in the images above is all the bold color in this home. Thrilling. Click through to Arch Daily to see the whole story.

  • The Barn House

An open field. A barn. A house. Beautiful light and open sky... meet the Barndominium, set on 50 acres of land in Texas.

"The Barndominium is a contemporary elaboration of a historical archetype, establishing a dialogue between a modern live/work program and the vernacular barn typology.  The project is “floated” above the site as a metric to gauge the subtle slope of the Texas landscape.  More than an aesthetic decision, the raised foundation resists problems associated with the high clay content found in Texas soil."

    and..

"The clients requested for the first phase of the project, an auxiliary structure that would primarily function as a workshop, while also containing a small living space for the couple to stay on the weekends.  As both an economic and environmental strategy, the workshop is mechanically separated from the living area, allowing for an actively conditioned living environment and a passively conditioned work environment throughout most of the year.  The living space opens to the South, providing views across the 50-acre property, and the workshop opens to a loading dock on the North side of the structure."

    So interesting!!

  • A Modern Montana Home, Rough & Ready

“Our motto for this project was ‘Rough and ready'. The design is seriously practical, easy to heat and cool, with nothing to paint or fret over. It’s essentially a simple barn, with open living, kitchen, and dining zones bracketed by spacious porches. There’s nothing precious about it.” - David Lake, architect.

I have a spot in my heart for Montana. If you have ever been there, you know what I am talking about. While I did not grow up there, my parents have lived the past 14 years in Montana and I have always enjoyed my visits. Especially in the summertime...

So you know I was totally thrilled to stumble across this modern Montana "barn" on AD.  If  I was there I don't think I'd ever want to leave? And I love the quotes by both the homeowner & the architect. It looks fancy-ish but you so know it get pretty dirty!

"We thought, why not make the entire house a kind of porch? All the rooms flow into one another, and everything flows outside. We’ve got dogs, kids, dirty cowboy boots here—it’s heaven.” - Homeowner
