gifts in jars

I intended to post this during Christmas time but alas, gifts in jars works for any time of the year! I love what Linda Lomelino (Call me Cupcake) has done with this project, elevating the beauty of a gift in a jar.

The recipes are amazing and the fact that it's a zero waste gift is even finer. All ingredients can be purchased in bulk (no more buying packaged ingredients & be sure to use your own containers & fabric bags to put your bulk items in!).

The natural packaging (greens, twine, clothespin and of course the jar) can either be composted or reused. The only thing I would change is to omit the printed label glued to the jar and include a small handwritten note instead.

Easter this year will be a relaxed day at our house with the inlaws. I will be preparing brunch which I'm totally excited about. We have 16 hens that lay the most amazing vibrant orange yolked eggs. Our local market has fantastic local farm bacon along with roasted asparagus, fresh fruit & mimosas. Mmm. Mini pavlovas with lemon curd & strawberries for dessert, it's going to be a good day.

Summertime is in full swing and what a fantastic one it has been! The weather has been absolutely perfect in Portland and we've been enjoying every last bit of living in the countryside.

icecream cone, wow!

 

Serious icecream amazingness: caramelized banana & peanut butter icecream with almond flour waffle cones. Not only does this sound yummy to just about everyone but it's a homerun for me. My family does not eat sugar, gluten, grains, starch or milk which just about eliminates any chance the warm summer day icecream cone.

Ah-ha! This brilliant recipe from the beautiful blog Roost gives hope, excitement, a treat! My kids will surely thank me... Now off to buy a waffle cone iron.

treat, white chocolate peppermint mocha cookies

A crazy long named (white chocolate peppermint mocha) upstyled Oreo cookie treat thing. 4 ingredients, no bake 15 minute sort of magic.

I don't eat Oreos anymore. But if I did, you can surely bet I would go for such nasty yummyness.

It's still miserably winter-ish in Portland (gray, rain etc) and while I long for Cabo, an ice cream cone would do. I admit I'm drawn to this recipe because of the cute little cones (ha!) but cacao nib and mint frozen yogurt sounds fantastic.

It's about this time of year I am dreaming of summertime. Or a warm beach in Cabo. Either would do. It's so cold and grey here in Portland.

Seriously now. An almond meringue base with a frosting-ish cream filling dipped in chocolate and stashed in the freezer? I would eat you right up, Sarah Bernhardt Cake!

This Danish treat was orignally created in honor of the french actress Sarah Bernhardt. Not sure of the connection there, but sure. Why not? Delicious.
