Portland: Jacobsen Salt Co.

Portland really is all you non-Portlanders imagine. I guess the secret is out! Last week I shared with you an urban Portland artisan honey company. This week? Salt. One Portland company makes salt.

Ben Jacobsen of Jacobsen Salt Co. uses traditional salt harvesting methods to turn Oregon's lovely coastal cold waters into fluffy large flakes of salt in his Portland facility.

Really amazing. Jacobsen Salt Co. is the first of it's kind to commercially make salt of Oregon's ocean, a true pioneer!

Portland: Bee Local Honey

Portlanders are like honey bees. A sweet, industrious bunch that generally doesn't sting. What happens when the two collide? Bee Local, an artisan neighborhood honey company, of course.

Bee Local is brilliant.  A local product (hello! neighborhood honey!), great presentation (love the handwritten batch info) and genuine honey bee love.

Visit Bee Local & buy the sweet stuff in their shop!

Portland: Olympic Provisions

If you live in Portland, you probably have a crush on Olympic Provisions. As you should! Olympic Provisions is Oregon's first salumeria, handcrafting over a dozen salamis and cured meats. These folks are dedicated to their craft and it shows. Even their branding & packaging is impeccable!

And if by chance you're not able to visit either of the 2 Olympic Provisions restaurant & deli locations (or drop by a local Portland market for your fix), you can shop their complete meaty selection in their online shop. So good!

A true cured-meat devotee? Join Olympic Provisions' Salami of the Month Club (bottom image) starting at $135 for 12 months.

PORTLAND: Salt & Straw

All Portlanders know that Salt & Straw Icecream is IT. THE icecream to eat. The Icecream that has given all those fancy gelato shops the boot. So I was triple excited to read about the story and dream of Salt & Straw on the Apartment Therapy blog, Kitchn.

If "farm to cone" gets you all giddy or Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise Icecream is your kind of thing then you'll probably want to marry  Salt & Straw, yes? And if you don't live in Portland, do not cry. You can order pints too in their online shop.

Read Salt & Straw's amazing story & see more images on the Kitchn.
