Here is some weekend breakfast inspiration for you...
A flourless version of cottage cheese pancakes that is one of my all-time favorite favorite things to make on a Saturday morning. These hearty little cakes are packed with protein and calcium. Naturally sweetened with banana & applesauce, you won't even miss all that extra fluff & stuff found in the usual buttermilk style. The walnuts add a bit of crunch & cozy nutty flavor.
p.s. If you want to get fancy for valentines day, you can spoon the batter into the pan to form heart shapes & top with a red berry compote. Who doesn't love that?!
the cakes
1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
1 banana
1 egg
1 cup gluten-free whole rolled oats
1/4 cup applesauce
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until the mixture is smooth and resembles pancake batter. Toss in walnuts and mix. Lightly oil a large skillet or griddle with coconut oil then heat over medium heat. Spoon batter onto skillet to form desired shape. Cook, flipping pancakes once, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 5 minutes each side. Transfer to plates, top with compote and enjoy! Makes 4 pancakes. Serves 2.
the compote
1 cup frozen blueberries
2 tablespoon agave nectar
Place blueberries in a small saucepan and cook on low heat for about 20 min or until blueberries break down and mixture thickens. Yep! It's as easy as that.
Enjoy!
I love this painting by Leanne Shapton. It reminds me of a dark den or library that you'd find in a big mid-centruy house. Tidy yet dusty and slightly cold. And always a fully stocked bar cart. Join me!

Vice Versa \\ A phrase used to indicate that the preceding phrase is true, both as it is, and also if you flip the two terms within.
Rug love, friends. Rug love. I am in love with these highly textured rugs by Chandra. Big pom-pom stones? Yes. Big knit? I'll take it!

Spotted & Inspired: I spotted the Ferm Living Squares Blanket recently in the room above and am so in love!
What makes me say, WHOAH? The black & white is perfect on it's own but it explodes when in combination with the tiny bits of very deliberate color from the fuchsia strings & night stand boxes.

Spotted & Inspired: &Tradition Trash Me Table Lamp.
I was so surprised to see how cool the &Tradition Trash Me Table Lamp looks in the room above. While I think it's an amazing lamp, it's a tad awkward and would not necessarily work in every room. This room, however, is incredibly tactile and the texture of the lamp (which yes, is made of paper pulp!) really suits the tone - warm, cozy yet... unexpected.

Let's talk color! How do you pick a color palette for the room you are designing? Where to start? How to make a confident decision?
1. Pick an image. Pick any image that you like, one that inspires & resonates with your desires for the room, even if you can't quite articulate what you want... yet.
[ Note: this "color palette image" does not have to be perfect. For example, I don't like the grey pom-pom thingy. ]
2. Look at the colors. Pick it apart. This will dictate your color palette. I do not initially think I am a huge fan of pink. I actually don't even like pink. Or peach. Or red. BUT certain colors just look good together -- complimenting or causing a happy tension. This is good. Avoid overdoing a single color which will ultimately look matchy-matchy. In the image above, the pink/coral color adds just enough interest, contrast & snap. I don't like pink... but i DO like snap.
3. Only consider products, items & elements that are within the proposed color palette... and forget the rest. For example, considering the image above, I would not paint the walls green or pick a purple duvet cover. Challenge yourself if you're not feeling confident in your choices. Stick to the color palette!
4. Break your own rules. I am on a gold kick. I think the reflective element of gold in my small master bedroom is important. Even though I do not see gold in my inspiration image, I am adding it in. I'll consider it to be my unexpected element.
5. Putting it all together. Once I found my well-rounded color palette inspiration image... I pinned it along with other products, colors & ideas that intrigued me. View your pin board as a whole & you will see a theme, detailed color palette & design emerge. Voilà! You can view my Master Bedroom Pinboard HERE.
