Glamorous globetrotters are sure to fall in love with our Tansu Collection, whose solid silhouettes, metallic hardware, and handsome tailoring resemble the vintage traveling trunks of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Inspired by the “tansu” mobile storage cabinetry of Japanese tradition, these sophisticated furnishings appear ready for an adventure, but are made to stand as permanent fixtures in your home base. The Tansu Console makes for a unique dresser or sitting room accent, boasting an open, structured base with a fixed shelf for stacking books and magazines, or displaying a range of objets d’art. Atop sits an enclosed three-drawer cabinet, with a larger single drawer positioned beneath two smaller ones. It’s outfitted with polished brass hardware and handles. The wooden piece is expertly constructed and topped with a high-gloss lacquered coat of refined white. Old world charm with modern spirit—what could be better?
A Tansu is traditional mobile storage cabinetry that is a feature of Japanese culture. Military “campaign” furniture with brass corners and strapwork is the western equivalent. We modernized the codes of both by blending elements of each tradition with luscious, high gloss lacquer color.
