This is cute & timely with Thanksgiving a few days away: Free Printable Recipe Cards from Love Vs. Design.

It's kind of old fashion to write out and share a recipe. That's why I like it. Reminds me of when my Grandma shared her recipe for Apricot Jello Mouse Stuff (yes, it involved Cool Whip, bless her!) with me when I was a newlywed.

To download, go to Love Vs. Design.

<![CDATA[Autumn fancies]]> Mon, 15 Oct 2012 10:24:11 +0000

Do you decorate for Halloween ... Autumn or Thanksgiving? We go to the pumpkin patch every year with the kids and I end up getting a few extra gourds and mini pumpkins to decorate with in addition to the pumpkins the kids pick out to carve.

Other than that, I have not done much. This year, however I am inspired by the typography on pumpkins, especially the first image with the letter H. Classy. And? A wax dipped leaf garland will be hard to pass up... and a fun project to do with the older kids.

What sorts of Autumn-ish projects do you do?

<![CDATA[Make/Do: Herbs in the House]]> Wed, 23 May 2012 01:16:19 +0000

We have a crazy patch of Mint growing in the sideyard. So much so that I gave it a big haircut in order to tame it and used the trimmings to create a large Mint bouquet for the coffee table. I didn't think of it in the moment (I just felt bad wasting all that Mint!) but it really brought a lovely dash of spring into our space.

Whether potted or cut, herbs in the house is a simple Make/Do project that takes no time at all. Choose a pretty pot or vessel, your favorite herbs, dirt and/or water... gussy it up & you're set. And if potted, make sure your herb-y friends reside near natural light.

Keep scissors handy to snip-snip when your herbs are needed. A mojito, perhaps?

<![CDATA[Make/Do: Hanging Houseplants]]> Thu, 17 May 2012 11:47:09 +0000

If 70's style macrame kind of scares you, take a deep breath & look again. It's a little less fussy these days & very diy-able. It gives your home that effortlessly chic 'no big deal'/well styled look.

And if hanging potted plants is nay-nay, then take a look at the string balls, lower left image. (yes, tutorial!) or shove some trailing plants into shadow boxes, bottom right. These Ferm Living Display Boxes would work perfectly.

Do you have any hanging houseplants? I do not currently, but am plotting...

<![CDATA[MAKE/DO: paint dipped wood spoons]]> Mon, 02 Apr 2012 16:04:44 +0000

There is no arguing with a wooden spoon. A timeless classic & kitchen staple. And while I prefer my wooden spoons au natural, a painted handle is rather cheerful for a wooden spoon, yes?

So tempting! Plus it's always so satisfying to paint something...

<![CDATA[Make/Do: Easy Houseplants]]> Fri, 23 Mar 2012 20:30:04 +0000

Adding more houseplants to my home has been on my '2012 to-do list. I used to do quite well with plants and always appreciated how they add cheerfulness to any room. Growing up my Mom always had various houseplants growing including the Spider Plant (shown above, middle) - such fond memories watching the "baby" spider plants growing off the ends.

While some houseplants seem to be a bit more fussy (I evidently can't keep a fern alive!) most houseplants just need light and water and cozy spot in your home. I have collected a few of my favorite houseplants in the image above, all via BHG - click through for more info.

This weekend I plan on going to a local Portland Nursery, Pistils to see what I can find! Houseplants are a simple assembly project -- plants + dirt + a vessel and you're set to brighten your space!

Are houseplants your thing... not?

<![CDATA[Make/Do: A Simple Terrarium Project ]]> Thu, 15 Mar 2012 09:42:11 +0000

Terrariums are so intriguing -- miniature landscaped worlds in a jar! And you can easily create one in less than an hour once you've gathered all the supplies. Because the jar (or other container) is transparent, I love how the roots, dirt and layers of green growth are visible. - beautiful! Terrariums are the perfect decorative object to brighten any room.

Check out the complete supply list and how-to on BHG - and view the fantastic step by step slide show!

Have you made a terrarium or have plans to?
